Michiel van Dijk: Cycle trip Berlin-Singapore (Thailand)

1. Camping under field-shelter
near Kalasin, Thailand.
(October 1999)

On the way from Udon Thani to Kalasin
I had to stop for the night and found
this typical field-shelter a better
choice than camping in the wild,
fearing a heavy evening-rain. I was
fortunate enough to be at least sheltered,
but the stormy wind almost blew my tent
away and the thunder and fierce rain
were so terrifying that it seemed like hell.
I appreciated the stay with "my Thai family",
4 days later, this time extra.

2. Bay
Prachuap Khirikhan, Thailand.
(October 1999)

The area southwest of Bangkok was
affected badly by heavy rainfall,
but every time just before or after
I visited a certain place. In a hut
close to the beach of this beautiful
bay I had a nice relax-day and
enjoyed the sunny weather.

3. Highway
to Suratthani, Thailand.
(October 1999)

Due to the appointment I had made with
Anna to arrive in Singapore exactly
1 year after our Istanbul rendez-vous
(14Nov,14.00hrs), I found myself a little
short of time. Combined with the very
unstable weather I decided to head south
as fast as possible. Since there are only
2 main roads going south and these being
highways, I made the best of it and
turned 1 day into record-attempt-day.
I cycled for the first time more than 200km
in 1 day: 214km from Chumphon to Suratthani!
