Michiel van Dijk: New Home

Photos: Hamilton, New Zealand

1. Junction Hostel, Frankton.
After a month-long stay in Auckland, we moved in July 2003 to
Hamilton, where I had found work. We shared an old house with
4 flatmates in the main street of Frankton, a suburb with
Hamilton's railway station and a popular weekly Saturday-
market; a place with special atmosphere.
2. Waikato river.
Hamilton is with 140,000 inhabitants NZ's 5th largest city,
built on the banks of the mighty Waikato river. It is the main
centre of the Waikato region, a very rich dairy, thoroughbred
and agricultural area. Like many other NZ towns it is very
widespread and relatively quiet.
3. Albert St, Hamilton East.
In November 2003 we moved into this furnished 1-bedroom unit,
part of a former motel and close to the river.
